Ella, Health
Ella Charlesworth, a dedicated Year 13 student at UTC, is celebrating her success after completing studies in Health & Social Care and Applied Science, With her sights firmly set on a career in healthcare, Ella has received conditional offers from both Leicester and De Montfort University, where she plans to begin a Midwifery degree in January 2026.
Ella joined the UTC in Year 12 after attending an open day — and immediately felt it was the right environment for her.
“I was really drawn to the size of the college. The smaller class sizes meant I could get more focused learning and one-to-one support. It’s made a huge difference.”
During her time at UTC, Ella has thrived both academically and personally, crediting the college’s welcoming atmosphere and supportive staff — especially Miss Houldsworth and Mr Kirkwood — for helping her feel at home.
“It feels more like a community or even a family here. You build better friendships and have space to grow.”
Outside of the classroom, Ella has taken full advantage of the careers opportunities:
“I’ve really enjoyed attending the careers and job fairs and exploring the wide range of opportunities available,” says Ella. “When the National Grid visited, we focused on developing interview skills, like how to structure answers effectively. It was a useful experience.”
Ella is confident she made the right decision in choosing the UTC, describing it as more than just a college — “it feels like a family and a strong community.”
