A Level Physics

A Level Physics explores the fundamental principles that govern the universe, from the smallest particles of matter to the largest structures in space. Combining theoretical study with practical investigation, students develop a deeper understanding of how the world works while building strong analytical, mathematical and problem-solving skills. Physics is highly valued by universities and employers and provides an excellent foundation for university and careers in engineering, physics, computing, medical professions and other STEM-related fields.

Course components include:

  • Measurements and Their Errors
  • Particles and Radiation
  • Waves
  • Mechanics and Materials
  • Electricity
  • Further Mechanics and Thermal Physics
  • Fields and Their Consequences
  • Nuclear Physics
  • Optional topics inlcude: Astrophysics, Medical Physics, Engineering Physics, Turning Points in Physics or Electronics

The course develops practical laboratory skills throughout, enabling students to apply scientific concepts through investigation and experimentation while developing the critical thinking and problem-solving skills needed for further study and employment.

Assessment

Assessment is through three written examinations, with practical skills and data analysis assessed throughout the course and contributing to the final assessment.
