A Level Psychology

A Level Psychology offers an engaging introduction to the scientific study of the mind and behaviour. Students explore why people think, feel and behave as they do, developing an understanding of key psychological theories, approaches and research methods. Through the study of a range of topics and real-world issues, students learn to analyse evidence, evaluate research and apply their knowledge to contemporary questions about human behaviour. The course develops valuable transferable skills including critical thinking, data analysis, research, evaluation and independent learning, making it excellent preparation for Higher Education and careers in psychology, healthcare, education, criminology, business and the social sciences.

• Optional topics, including areas such as Relationships, Gender, Cognition and Development, Schizophrenia, Eating Behaviour, Stress, Aggression, Forensic Psychology and Addiction.

The course encourages students to think scientifically about behaviour, develop strong analytical skills and gain an understanding of how psychological research can be applied to everyday life and society.

Assessment

Assessment is through three written examinations taken at the end of the course, allowing students to demonstrate their knowledge, understanding, application and evaluation of psychological theories and research
