Appointments and Absences
High attainment depends on good attendance. Poor attendance can also pose a risk to the safety and wellbeing of individual students. We will always work in partnership with parents and carers to help every child achieve high levels of attendance.
Requests for absence from UTC for appointments such as dental, hospitals etc, should be sent into UTC giving at least one clear day’s notice. We would always encourage parents/carers to minimise the amount of time missed in school for these appointments.
Term time holidays can have a significant impact on achievement and progress; therefore, our policy is not to authorise any leave of absence other than in the most exceptional circumstances. The fundamental principles for defining exceptional circumstances are that they are rare, significant, unavoidable and short. By unavoidable, we mean an event that could not reasonably be scheduled at another time.
Requests for leave of absence should be made in writing and addressed to Lee Kirkwood, Principal. Please be aware that any application for leave of absence during term time must be submitted in advance.
Further information about attendance can be found in our Attendance Policy.
Unexpected Absence and Illness
If your child is ill or unexpectedly absent from UTC, please let us know on each day of absence. If the UTC does not receive an explanatory telephone message or email you will be contacted either by text, email or phone. You can contact our admin team on 01332 477400 or by email at derbyadmin@utcderby.org.uk.
