Preparing students for successful futures is a key part of the UTC experience. Through a comprehensive careers programme, students gain valuable insight into higher education, apprenticeships and the world of work, helping them to make informed decisions about their future and develop the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to achieve their ambitions.

Throughout their time with us, students benefit from a wide range of careers-related opportunities, including employer-led projects, workplace visits, careers events, mentoring opportunities, work experience and encounters with further and higher education providers. These experiences help students explore different pathways, understand the opportunities available within their chosen specialism and make well-informed decisions about their next steps.

Students also receive impartial careers information, advice and guidance throughout their journey. Whether progressing to university, an apprenticeship or employment, students are supported with applications, personal statements, CV writing, interview preparation and progression planning, ensuring they are fully prepared for life beyond UTC.

Careers Programme

Our careers programme is aligned to the eight Gatsby Benchmarks of Good Career Guidance, ensuring students receive high-quality careers education throughout their time at UTC. We regularly review and evaluate our provision using the Compass+ audit tool to ensure it continues to meet the needs of our students and reflects the latest labour market information.

Careers Advice & Guidance

Students have access to independent and impartial careers guidance throughout their time at UTC. All Year 11 and Year 13 students receive a one-to-one guidance interview with Ruth Mellors, Trust Careers Adviser, providing personalised support to help them explore career pathways, understand progression opportunities and make informed decisions about their future. Additional guidance and support are available throughout the year to ensure students are well prepared for their chosen destination.
