Safeguarding Team

At UTC Derby, the safety and wellbeing of our students is our highest priority. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all young people and have robust policies, procedures and support systems in place to help keep them safe.

We work closely with parents, carers and external agencies to ensure students receive the right support at the right time. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and all staff play an active role in creating a safe, supportive and inclusive environment.

Reporting a Concern

If you have a safeguarding concern regarding one of our students you can contact safeguarding@utcderby.org.uk or call us on 01332 477400, during the school day there is always a member of the Safeguarding Team on the premises to make any referral to the appropriate agency.

  • Kooth is for children and young people aged 11 to 18 years, and up to 25 years for children in care.  Quell is the equivalent service for parents.
  • Childline is the UK’s free helpline for children and young people. It provides a confidential counselling service for any child with a problem.
  • Samaritans provides non-judgmental emotional support for those experiencing feelings of distress, despair or suicidal thoughts.
  • BEAT Opens in new tab offers information, help and support for anyone affected by eating disorders. They have a number of helplines on their website.
  • Papyrus provide confidential support and advice to young people under the age of 35 who are experiencing thoughts of suicide, and anyone worried about a young person at risk of suicide.
  • Self-harm UK offers information and support around self-harm including an online support group.
  • Young Minds offers information, advice and support for young people affected by mental health.
