Engineering Course Details
Level 3 BTEC Engineering
Exam Board: Pearson | Entry Requirements: Minimum 5 GCSE Grade 4s and above including English and Mathematics
This course can be studied as a Foundation Diploma (1.5 A Level equivalent) or a Diploma (2 A Level equivalent)
This qualification develops the technical knowledge, practical skills and professional understanding needed to succeed in the modern engineering sector. Students explore core engineering principles and apply mathematical and scientific concepts to real-world engineering challenges, while developing their problem-solving, analytical and teamwork skills. Combining theory with practical application, the course provides excellent preparation for higher education, apprenticeships and careers across a wide range of engineering and advanced manufacturing industries.

Assessment: The qualification is assessed through a combination of examinations and i coursework, enabling students to demonstrate both their technical knowledge and their ability to apply engineering principles in practical contexts.

At Post 16, students benefit from extensive engagement with industry, working with leading engineering employers through employer-led projects, workplace visits, mentoring programmes and careers events. Students also have opportunities to secure highly sought-after work experience placements, gaining valuable insight into professional engineering environments while developing the skills, knowledge and industry connections needed for university, apprenticeships and future careers.
Destinations & Progression
Our Engineering students leave UTC Derby Pride Park ready to take their next steps with confidence, progressing to leading universities, higher apprenticeships and degree apprenticeship programmes. Former students have gone on to study subjects including Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Aerospace Technology and Mechatronics at universities such as the University of Derby, Coventry University, Sheffield Hallam University and De Montfort University. Others have secured highly competitive apprenticeship and degree apprenticeship opportunities with employers including Rolls-Royce, Toyota, JCB, Core Control Solutions and the National Space Academy, building successful careers across the engineering and advanced manufacturing sectors.
