A Level Mathematics

A Level Mathematics is a highly respected qualification that develops strong problem-solving, logical reasoning and analytical skills, making it excellent preparation for both university and employment. Building on key GCSE topics, students develop a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts and learn how to apply them to a wide range of real-world situations. The course encourages logical thinking, resilience and precision, providing a strong foundation for degree courses and careers in areas such as engineering, computer science, physics, economics, finance and data analysis.

The course is divided into three compulsory areas:

• Pure Mathematics: develops your understanding of core mathematical principles, including algebra, geometry and calculus.
• Mechanics: explores the mathematics of motion and forces, applying mathematical concepts to real-world physical problems.
• Statistics: teaches you how to collect, analyse and interpret data, including probability and hypothesis testing.

Through studying these areas, students develop the confidence and mathematical fluency needed to tackle complex problems and progress to a wide range of university courses and career pathways.

Assessment

Assessment is through three written examinations covering Pure Mathematics, Statistics and Mechanics, allowing students to demonstrate their mathematical knowledge, understanding and problem-solving skills.
