Our are celebrating a strong set of technical and academic results.

At our technical school on Locomotive Way, Pride Park, students complete technical qualifications in engineering or health and life sciences as well as A Levels.

The technical qualifications are equivalent to between one and three A Levels.

The technical qualification pass rate for both engineering and health and life sciences was 100%. 91% of those studying an engineering technical achieved a result of merit+ or higher, 50% of students studying health and life sciences students achieved a distinction.

In mathematics A Level 71% of students achieved a grade C or above.

Students are progressing to a range of degree courses including adult nursing, mechanical engineering, software engineering, aerospace, and degree apprenticeships.

The destinations include University of Derby, Sheffield University, Manchester University, De Montfort University, Leicester University, Salford University, Loram, Core Control Solutions, Astra Zenica, Severn Trent, Marks and Spencer.

Lee Kirkwood, Principal of UTC Derby Pride Park, said: “I am so proud of our students and all that they have achieved. They benefit from a technical and academic education which prepares them well for university, apprenticeships and their future careers.

Our well-established work with employers supports students to develop high level technical, team work and problem solving skills, as they learn how to apply knowledge to practice.”

Students learn from industry experts in specialist high tech facilities and complete GCSEs and A Levels as well as technical qualifications that are equivalent to A Levels.

Employers have shaped the curriculum by setting industry projects and providing work experience and placements.

Organisations supporting the UTC include Alstom, Rolls-Royce, Toyota, the University of Derby and Joined Up Care Derbyshire, which comprises health and social care employers in the region.
